About

Lace: (noun) A fine open fabric, typically one of cotton or silk, made by looping, twisting, or knitting thread in patterns.

Muskeg: (noun) A North American swamp or bog consisting of a mixture of water and partly dead vegetation, frequently covered by a layer of sphagnum or other mosses

I always find that my life is defined by an odd duality. The rustic, chaotic forests that blanket my hometown, and the delicate lace that old hands taught me to make, twisting clean, white silk threads. And yet both contain a beauty that captivates and inspires.

My name is Melissa. I am twenty, going on 200. An old-soul, a Gemini, and a gypsy. I make things, and create art. I also dance, and teach dance. I'm a huge nerd – I play video games, read books, frequently geek out over TV shows, and play Magic: the Gathering like a champ. Hayao Miyazaki is one of my heros. Along with Maya Angelou and my grandparents. I believe in Love, and the power of it. I fight against sexism, ageism and sizeism – along with any other '-ism' that plagues our world. I believe there isn't any excuse for apathy, and I'm still trying to figure out what exactly I 'believe' in, beyond my understanding – all I know is I believe in something. I'm a feminist and an optimist.

I'm presently adjusting to eating gluten-free. I believe in spirits, can read Tarot cards, and have 6 spirit guides who follow and support me. I am presently dating my high-school sweetheart, Max. Together we plan on changing the world, after we begin seeing it, with our sharp wits and intelligence. I play piano and sing, and am absolutely hopeless at anything that involves hand-eye co-ordination. We joke that I sold my 'sports' soul to the creative-gods. I have an etsy shop, as well as a place where I sell art prints, if you're interested.

This summer I met with a spiritual teacher. She can see people's spirits and hearts. I started my year off with immense gratitude and bravery, and plan on practicing then both as much as I can. I am also setting off on a journey that counteracts almost everything that I have been told. I'm terrified and ecstatic. I'm going to attempt to do 44 things (new and old and odd) before the end of next year. It's going to be fabulous. I also have a massive list of crafts I'm trying to tackle.

I plan on sharing all of these lovely things, with creativity and quirk. I have a goal of making and meeting as many similar minded friends as I possibly can. So if you feel the need, drop me a line. I love emails and new friends.

And I love you already. ♥
